Skinner led most of the session but was pipped by Mackenzie with three minutes to go, before Tommy Bridewell also moved ahead of the Kawasaki man into second.

Championship leader Christian Iddon will start race one from seventh position, while qualifying drama for title rival Jason O’Halloran means the Australian will start 18th. O’Halloran crashed after hitting a damp patch at Paddock Hill Bend.

The second row is made up of Bradley Ray - best qualifying of the season for BMW (fourth), Danny Buchan fifth and Peter Hickman will line-up sixth making the second row an all BMW one.

Following his double victory at Knockhill, SYNETIQ BMW rider Danny Buchan was fastest on Friday’s combined free practice times, while O’Halloran led the way in a damp FP3 ahead of qualifying.
