2022 Qatar Moto3 Grand Prix, Lusail - Race Results
Andrea Migno has won the season-opening Qatar Moto3 Grand Prix after heartbreak for Ayumu Sasaki.
The Japanese bolted from pole and held a 3.4s advantage with 7 laps to go when he suffered a near highside that caused the side of his fairing to break loose, leaving him a sitting duck. Sasaki eventually pulled into the pits.
Sasaki's downfall left a six-rider group at the front, with class veteran Migno holding off Guevara for only his second grand prix victory (the first was in 2017) by 0.037s with Kaito Toba in third.
Guevara, Foggia and Suzuki were demoted to the back of the grid and given additional long-lap penalties (one for Guevara and Suzuki, two for Foggia) to serve in the race for irresponsible riding in qualifying.
Title runner-up Foggia recovered to seventh and Guevara eighth, but Suzuki fell trying to overtake Fellon, taking the young Frenchman out in the process.
