Alex Rins began race day for the Misano MotoGP in perfect style by topping morning warm-up, despite several deleted lap times for exceeding track limits.

Not for the first time this season, Marc Marquez decided to stay in the garage for the beginning of warm-up and conserve his energy. .

With uncertain weather expected throughout race day, several riders scrubbed in a set of wet tyres including Marquez, Rins and Jack Miller to name a few.

Ducati test rider Michele Pirro led after the initial flurry of laps, before Rins and Fabio Quartararo looked set to go fastest with half the session gone.

However, the pair exceeded track limits on the exit of Curvone (turn 10), a common theme during this morning’s session.

Quartararo did manage to improve further on his next lap and therefore go top, while Rins slotted into second behind the Yamaha rider.

Rins then had a second lap deleted late on, while KTM’s Brad Binder made his usual race day improvements to go fifth with four minutes remaining.

It wasn’t over for Rins though as he eventually got first place off Quartararo with a 1:32.521s.

Rins’ team-mate Joan Mir put in a good final effort to make it two Suzuki’s inside the top four, while pole sitter Francesco Bagnaia was third in the end.

Aleix Espargaro took fifth for Aprilia, while Miller led Pirro in seventh. Rounding out the top ten was Enea Bastianini, Binder and the top Honda Stefan Bradl.
