WEC: Toyota drops Lapierre for final rounds
Nicolas Lapierre will not return to Toyota for the remainder of the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship, raising doubts about his future with the manufacturer.
The Frenchman, who was involved in significant shunts at Le Mans and Austin, skipped the previous event in Fuji for personal reasons but has now been informed that he won't be racing the #8 TS040 Hybrid alongside Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi for the final three events either.
"Based on its experience in Fuji, the team considers it is the best option to continue with a two-driver line-up of Anthony and S?bastien in Shanghai and for the remaining races of the season," read Toyota's Shanghai 6 Hours preview.
1/2 @Toyota_Hybrid decided to finish the season with two drivers in car #8, I have to accept it.#lookingforwardto2015-- Nicolas Lapierre (@Nico_Lapierre) October 28, 2014
Despite being reduced to a twosome, Davidson and Buemi were triumphant in Japan and are now well placed at the top of the drivers' standings.
