Lucas Mahias

Lucas Mahias' world championship debut came in Moto2 as he competed in the 2013 grand prix at Brno. The French rider would go on to compete in the season finale at Valencia before another four Moto2 races (three in 2014 and one in 2015). Mahias failed to score points on all six occasions, however, in WorldSSP his prospects were looking much better. 

Mahias, who made his Supersport debut with Yamaha, claimed his first points finish in just his second race as he took P4 in Qatar. 

Although Mahias didn’t complete a full season in any world championship series until 2017, the now 32 year-old became world champion as soon as he did. 

After taking his first WorldSSP podium in 2015 (P3 at his home round in Magny-Cours), Mahias won the championship in 2017 after getting the better of five-time series champion Kenan Sofuoglu and fellow Frenchman Jules Cluzel. 

Mahias took just two wins compared to Sofuoglu’s five, however, with the Turkish rider missing a total of four races, an early deficit of 45 points proved too much to overcome. 

Mahias would then back-up his world title win with second in 2018 - series rookie Sandro Cortese took the title for Yamaha. 

After moving from Yamaha to Kawasaki, Mahias endured a slightly tougher 2019 season as he finished fourth, however, his second season (2020) with the Japanese manufacturer was one of his best from a results point of view. Mahias matched his title winning campaign in terms of wins (2) and podiums (8).

Following a second runner-up finish, this time to another Yamaha rookie in Andrea Locatelli, Mahias made the move to WorldSBK where he had previously contested two races (2016). 

Mahias, who joined Puccetti Kawasaki, endured a frustrating season as injuries saw him miss 16 races which was the most of any full-time rider. Mahias remains with the Puccetti Kawasaki team for the upcoming 2022 season.
