Wrist injury forces BSB title contender Mackenzie out of Thruxton

Tarran Mackenzie has been forced to withdraw from round seven of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Thruxton after sustaining a wrist injury in an accident during qualifying.

The McAMS Yamaha rider came down hard in Q1 and was taken to the medical centre, where he was diagnosed with a fracture to his left radius.

With a further assessment scheduled for Monday, the decision was taken to sit the two races out as a precaution.

“I had a good feeling this morning in FP3. I didn’t put any new tyres in during any of the sessions, so qualifying was the first time I’ve really lit it up for a lap. The first lap was OK but I didn’t have the best feeling from the rear, the bike came right round on me at the Complex as I went back to the throttle.

“It was a weird crash; I haven’t had a moment there all weekend and it just spat me over the handlebars. I held on to it, which probably broke the wrist, but other than that I am OK. We’ll see the fracture clinic on Monday and see what they think and go from there.”

Though it is another two races out after he failed to start at Brands Hatch earlier in the season too, Mackenzie remains on course for the Title Showdown in fourth overall, 48 points clear of seventh place man Peter Hickman.
