Richard Cooper has claimed his second career Bennetts British Superbike race win in the final race of 2018 for Buildbase Suzuki ahead of Tommy Bridewell in a soaking wet encounter.
Cooper, who claimed his maiden BSB win in a wet race at Oulton Park, repeated the feat in soggy conditions at Brands Hatch having darted into the lead at the first corner before producing an unrelenting pace to win by over seven seconds at the chequered flag.
Second place was enough for Moto Rapido Ducati’s Bridewell to claim the BSB Riders’ Cup at the final race, taking it off Jason O’Halloran for Honda, with championship runner-up Jake Dixon ending his final race in the series with a podium for RAF Regular & Reserve Kawasaki before heading to Moto2 next season.
Christian Iddon battled his way to a creditable fourth place for Tyco BMW ahead of 2015 BSB Josh Brookes on the McAMS Yamaha, as a late-race fade for champion Haslam saw him take sixth place in his final race ahead of his return to World Superbikes.
Gino Rea produced his strongest showing of his rookie BSB campaign at the finale for OMG Suzuki in seventh place ahead of Honda’s O’Halloran who faded late on in eighth but was comfortably in front of Peter Hickman on the Smiths Racing BMW.
Hickman’s team-mate Sylvain Barrier also claimed his best result of the year with 10th having seen off Bradley Ray on the Buildbase Suzuki who held off Danny Kent at the line on the Movuno.com Halsall Suzuki.
Mason Law (Team WD-40 Kawasaki), Shaun Winfield (Anvil Hire Yamaha) and Aaron Zanotti (Team 64 Kawasaki) rounded out the points places and the final finishers with another high rate of attrition in the slippery conditions in the rain.
