Despite his race two crash, Bradley Ray started from pole after setting the fastest lap.

Lining-up second was Ray’s Rich Energy OMG Racing Yamaha team-mate Kyle Ryde, while Rory Skinner was third for the second consecutive race.

After leading a Yamaha 1-2 into turn one, Ray and Ryde were demoted to fourth and fifth as Skinner took the lead from Glenn and Andrew Irwin.

Eager to write the wrongs of race two, Ray immediately set about moving back to the front as he got through on Ryde for P4.

That started a mini drop for Ryde as he went from fifth to seventh in the space of two corners.

The second change for the lead took place on lap four as Irwin got through on Skinner, while a lap later Storm Stacey went down at Brooklands.

Making it an Irwin 1-2; Andrew got through on Skinner at Luffield (lap six) as Jason O’Halloran also got ahead of Ray for fourth.

Ryde’s drop continued to take place on laps nine and 10 as Christian Iddon and Danny Buchan also got ahead of the two-time podium finisher this weekend.

Struggling to keep pace with his brother, a train of riders led by O’Halloran began to form behind A. Irwin.

With his team-mate going backwards, Ray started to instead move forward following overtakes on Tommy Bridewell and Skinner. Ray then made another move on O’Halloran for third in what was quickly becoming a mid-race charge from the two-time BSB winner.

As Ray lined up a move on Irwin for second, the 24 year-old then came close to a highside on the exit of turn four.

Looking to regroup and challenge Irwin once more, Ray suffered yet another huge moment coming onto the start-finish straight. This came a lap after O’Halloran and Buchan made significant contact coming into Luffield.

Lap 22 and Ray was eventually through on Irwin as he immediately gapped the SYNETIQ BMW rider.

Ray began closing in on G.Irwin with just five laps to go, but with the Honda rider keeping a strong pace out front, Ray ultimately ran out of time.

Making it a double Irwin podium was Andrew as he held off Skinner, O'Halloran and team-mate Buchan for P3 on the final lap.

Bradley Ray crashes out from a sure-fire British Superbike race two win

Although the pace set by Ray was proving very hot, just like the bright sunshine around Silverstone, G. Irwin began closing in on the leading trio of Ray, Ryde and Skinner with 16 laps gone.

With exceptional traction being a big reason for Irwin’s race one success, the Northern Irishman seemed to have the same advantage over his rivals as he went around the outside of Skinner at turn one.

Eager to make it two from two, Irwin then got ahead of Ryde going into turn four with ten laps remaining. The Honda rider, who was losing ground to Ray, was granted his wish of leading the race as the Yamaha rider dramatically crashed out at Luffield.

Ray had gradually been building his lead throughout the race - extending his advantage over Irwin to nearly a second before the fall.

The former Suzuki and BMW rider gave it everything to try and save the front end crash, but was ultimately unable to do so.
