Defending champion Sutton leads the way in Donington FP2
Defending British Touring Car champion Ash Sutton has continued his strong start to the opening weekend of the 2022 campaign after topping the timesheets in second practice at Donington Park.
Sutton is navigating his first race weekend with the NAPA Racing UK Motorbase Performance outfit, but appears to have quickly got to grips with his new Ford Focus ST machinery after ending both practice sessions firmly in the top-three.
The three-time champion was third quickest in FP1 before moving to the fore during the afternoon session ahead of Toyota newcomer Ricky Collard in P2.
With the times marginally slower in FP2, just 0.053s covered Sutton and Collard, while Honda's Gordon Shedden and Team BMW's Colin Turkington followed just a further 0.1s behind in third and fourth.
Stephen Jelley maintained his promising start to the weekend to end the practice running directly behind his Team BMW stablemate Turkington in fifth position.
Having set a blindingly quick lap in FP1, EXCELR8 Motorsport's Tom Ingram settled for the sixth fastest time aboard his Hyundai i30N in FP2. Ingram improved at the very end of the session to move ahead of his Hyundai team mate Dan Lloyd in seventh.
NAPA Racing UK's Dan Cammish registered the eighth fastest time, while Adam Morgan, Rory Butcher and Michael Crees completed the remainder of the top-ten positions ahead of qualifying round one of the championship.
