Turkington 'primed to attack' in title battle

British Touring Car Championship leader Colin Turkington is looking to strengthen his grip on this season's title race with a 'really strong points haul' at this weekend's Knockhill round.

The defending three-time champion carries a 30-point lead ahead of his West Surrey Racing BMW team mate Andrew Jordan after battling through a tough weekend last time out at Thruxton.

Turkington struggled during the previous Thruxton round and picked up a best finish of ninth, but the Team BMW driver is optimistic the traditionally RWD friendly Knockhill layout will favour the WSR prepared 3 Series.

“I’m feeling excited, refreshed and ready for battle. Knockhill has generally been kind to rear wheel-drive cars, so it should be well-suited to the BMW and I’m targeting a really strong points haul," said Turkington.

"As ever there, qualifying will be very important to set us up for a good weekend.

"The extra weight from leading the championship will hurt us on the start/finish straight, but at the end of the day, that’s only a short section of the lap and hopefully the 3 Series’ strong handling characteristics will more than compensate."

Despite enjoying a healthy 30-point cushion at the top of the standings, Turkington maintains he will go on the attack as the 37-year old chases a record-equalling fourth BTCC drivers' title.

"My overall mentality hasn’t changed," the championship leader continued.

"In the BTCC, you simply can’t afford to hold back in any way, shape or form, and I go into the weekend primed to attack.”
