Jordan receives race one time penalty

BMW Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan has been handed a 6.6 second time penalty for contact with Tom Chilton during the opening British Touring Car Championship race at Silverstone.

Jordan finished race one in eighth position but has since dropped to tenth in the classification following a post-race time penalty.

The penalty comes after the title contender made contact with the Motorbase Performance Ford Focus of Chilton on the lap 13 when the pair were battling for tenth position.

The penalty comes after the title contender made contact with the Motorbase Performance Ford Focus of Chilton on the lap 13 when the pair were battling for tenth position.

As a result, Jordan's points tally has dropped by two, meaning the BMW driver now trails Colin Turkington by six points in the BTCC title race, instead of four.

Adam Morgan and Tom Chilton both profit from the ruling and move ahead of Jordan into eighth and ninth.

Points leader Turkington once again saw his championship lead cut after the defending three-time champion hit trouble earlier in the race following an altercation with Adam Morgan and Rob Collard.

The Team BMW driver fell as low as 25th at one stage during race one, but managed to recover back up the order and finish in 14th, scoring two precious championship points in the process.

Eight-points will cover the top-three championship order heading into race two at Silverstone, with Honda's Dan Cammish also closing the gap to the top of the table following his eleventh place finish in race one.

Race two gets underway at 14:35 with race one winner Tom Ingram starting on pole position ahead of two-time champion Jason Plato in second.

Jordan, Cammish and Turkington will start from 10th, 11th and 14th respectively.
