Turkington penalised for race two yellow flag infringement
Team BMW's Colin Turkington has been given a post-race time penalty for gaining an advantage under yellow flags during the second British Touring Car Championship race at Brands Hatch.
The defending four-time champion was running fourth behind Honda driver Dan Cammish when Paul Rivett suffered a heart stopping spin on the exit of Paddock Hill bend on the penultimate lap of the race.
With Rivett's stricken Audi S3 blocking the racing line on the exit of Paddock Hill, Turkington swooped around the outside of Cammish to take the final step on the rostrum, and two extra championship points in the process.
However, Turkington was adjudged to have gained an advantage under yellow flag conditions when making the move for third position.
As a result, Turkington has demoted to fourth back behind Cammish, following his time penalty.
In terms of championship picture heading into the final round showdown, Ash Sutton will take an 11-point lead ahead of Turkington into the final race of the season, while Cammish moves back into contention 20-points back from Sutton in third.
Toyota Gazoo Racing UK's Tom Ingram fell out of title contention following race two despite storming back up the order from his earlier to a record a second place finish.
Sutton stands on the brink of claiming his second BTCC title, three years after clinching his first with the BMR Subaru outfit. The Laser Tools Racing driver will start the finale from 12th on the grid, with his Infiniti team mate Aiden Moffat starting the reverse grid race on pole position.
Turkington will start three-places higher than Sutton in ninth.
