The three-time champion has sat down with former F1 race winner Johnny Herbert to discuss the most important aspects to driving skills and what helps him produce his incredible speed in an the insightful Mercedes video below.

Hamilton talks about being fearless the moment he started karting with the support of his father and how he naturally picked up his braking technique '8 or 10 laps into driving'.

The Mercedes driver also explains what goes on inside the cockpit and behind the helmet visor, focusing on sight, timing and breathing and how combining all these elements helps with his driving style.

Interestingly, Hamilton blasts the idea of ever employing a driver of mind coach and says they are 'only for those insecure people'.

Whatever the secrets are it clearly works as the British driver has won five of the past six races and with victory in Hungary he claimed the F1 drivers' championship lead from Nico Rosberg.
