2017 in review - A year of contrasting fortunes for Red Bull as it slipped back behind Ferrari to third in the standings. The Milton Keynes-based outfit endured a difficult start to 2017, lagging behind Mercedes and Ferrari as wind tunnel issues hampered the team’s development and left it months behind schedule. Poor reliability was also a regular feature throughout the campaign, though victories for an opportunistic Daniel Ricciardo in Baku and a strong end to the season, highlighted by Max Verstappen’s winning drives in Malaysia and Mexico, left Red Bull confident it could challenge for more silverware in 2018.

What’s changed for 2018? - A focus on hitting the ground running in Melbourne. Red Bull made it clear from an early stage that it was determined to be on the front foot and challenging from the off this year, following its slow start to 2017. A technical reshuffle, promoting Pierre Wache to the title of chief engineer for performance is a move that the team hopes will bolster its chances. Red Bull’s RB14 looked very strong in pre-season testing at Barcelona and gained attention from rivals Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton claiming the team could challenge his squad's current dominance of F1.

Key man - Adrian Newey. As one of F1’s most renowned technical guru’s, Newey's 2018 concept will be key to Red Bull’s hopes of challenging for its first world championship title since 2013. It has two very talented drivers in Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen, both of whom have displayed impressive performances in recent years and are chomping at the bit to have the opportunity to take the fight to the likes of Hamilton and co in 2018. But they need competitive machinery at their disposal in order to do so.
