Caterham has joined rival Sauber in confirming homologation for its 2014 F1 chassis, having passed the mandatory FIA crash tests this week.

The Leafield team is only the second to report positive completion of the process, having passed the frontal impact and the fuel cell integrity tests needed to finalise the homologation procedure.

"We have successfully completed the two crash tests for homologation of our 2014 chassis," the team confirmed via its Twitter feed, "Great news for us!"

Without successfully completing the test, teams would not be able to take part in any pre-season track session next year, hampering development of the car ahead of the new campaign.

While it may be ahead of the game with regard to its technical preparation, however, Caterham continues to lag behind rivals who have completed, or partially-completed, their driver line-ups. Several names continue to be linked to Tony Fernandes' equipe, including both 2013 pilots - Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde - former driver Heikki Kovalainen, possible Sauber refugee Esteban Gutierrez and GP2 racewinner Marcus Ericsson, who was present as a guest of the team in Brazil.
