Toro Rosso is set to change name for the 2020 Formula 1 season, becoming Scuderia Alpha Tauri.

Alpha Tauri is the name of Red Bull's fashion brand, founded in 2016, with the energy drink giant planning to raise its profile by rebranding Toro Rosso under its title from 2020.

In a document seen by Crash.net, members of the F1 Commission have been invited to vote on Toro Rosso's planned change of name, with approval already being granted by the commercial rights holder for 2020.

On the basis that the name change is approved, the team would officially be known as Scuderia Alpha Tauri Honda from the start of next season.

Name changes of teams are regularly subject to such approval, with other examples this year including Ferrari's regular switch back and forth with its Mission Winnow title sponsorship, and the recent removal of Rich Energy from Haas' official name.

Final approval is set to be received by Toro Rosso ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix next month.

It would mark the disappearance of the Toro Rosso name from F1, which first appeared in 2006 after Red Bull's takeover of the Minardi team in order to establish a sister outfit to its senior squad.

The team scored its sole F1 victory at the 2008 Italian Grand Prix courtesy of Sebastian Vettel, and scored its second podium finish at this year's German Grand Prix through Daniil Kvyat.

Toro Rosso currently sits sixth in the F1 constructors' championship, nine points clear of Racing Point and just 12 shy of Renault in P5.
