Sergio Perez is staying tight-lipped on speculation linking him with a surprise switch to Williams for the 2021 Formula 1 season.

Perez is currently looking to secure a drive for next year after Racing Point opted to replace the Mexican with four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel as it rebrands to Aston Martin for 2021.

Recent reports claim that Perez has emerged as a candidate to potentially replace George Russell at Williams following a change in ownership at the British outfit with Dorilton Capital’s takeover.

While Russell was quick to dismiss the speculation, Perez did not deny that discussions have taken place with Williams.

“As I’ve said before, I haven’t signed anything,” Perez said when he faced the media on Thursday ahead of the Portuguese Grand Prix.

“At the moment there’s not a lot that I have to report or say. The season is coming to an end so it’s getting close and I should be in a position to say something pretty soon I think.

“But up to now I don’t think there’s a lot of point in giving away anything because I also want to keep my negotiations private.

“I think we’ve got to be respectful of all the teams that we are talking to and so there’s no point to discuss anything at the moment.”

Perez is seemingly left with few options for 2021 with limited seats available and has been linked to both Haas and Alfa Romeo, while Red Bull has not ruled out the Mexican if Alex Albon fails to improve on his inconsistent results.

Asked how many teams he is currently in talks with, Perez replied: “Ha, there are not many teams out there! Actually very few.

“It’s not like a number, but there are very few teams out there that have a good project that is something that really puts me into their project, and I’m willing to be in that project.”
