Aston Martin sets March date for 2021 F1 car reveal

Aston Martin will take the covers off its highly-anticipated 2021 Formula 1 car on Wednesday 3 March.

It will mark the first car the team has launched since rebranding from Racing Point into an Aston Martin ‘works’ capacity, as the iconic British name returns to the F1 grid for the first time in over 60 years.

The Silverstone-based outfit has confirmed it will reveal its as yet unnamed 2021 challenger on Wednesday 3 March at 15:00 GMT in a virtual launch event.

Aston Martin’s first F1 car in six decades will be driven by new signing Sebastian Vettel, who joins the team following his departure from Ferrari, and Lance Stroll.

Under its previous Racing Point guise, the team finished fourth in the 2020 constructors’ championship, scoring two podiums and its first-ever grand prix victory.

Aston Martin is the eighth F1 team to have announced its launch plans for the upcoming 2021 F1 season, which begins on 28 March with the Bahrain Grand Prix.

F1’s 2021 launch season was kicked off by McLaren as it revealed its MCL35M challenger on Monday night, with AlphaTauri and Alfa Romeo the next teams set to follow suit in unveiling their cars on 19 and 22 February respectively.

Mercedes and Alpine will then launch their cars on Tuesday 2 March, one day before Aston Martin’s event, which will be followed by Williams’ unveiling on 5 March, while Ferrari will show off its SF21 car on 10 March, two days prior to pre-season testing in Bahrain.

Red Bull and Haas are the only two teams yet to confirm their respective launch plans for their 2021 cars.
