Charles Leclerc says he has forgotten about his disappointing Monaco Grand Prix Formula 1 weekend after failing to start his home race from pole position.

Leclerc endured another difficult home race in Monte Carlo as he was unable to take the race start, encountering a driveshaft issue on his way to the grid.

The Ferrari driver claimed pole position despite crashing on his final run in Q3, heavily damaging his car in the process.

The team confirmed after the Monaco Grand Prix that the driveshaft hub failure was a direct result of his crash in qualifying.

Ahead of this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Leclerc was asked if it took him a long time to move on from the events of Monaco, he replied: “Not really. As always whenever I’m having a difficult moment I try to forget it as soon as possible, obviously learning from it, as there is definitely something to learn from it, but in the end I give it all, I absolutely wanted that pole, but I went too much into Q3 and unfortunately that cost me the DNS for Sunday so it’s a shame it’s like this.

“I look forward, love Baku, and looking forward to driving it.”

After showing race-winning levels of speed in Monaco, Leclerc suspects Ferrari will be brought “back to reality” in Baku this weekend.

“I think it will be a bit back to reality now,” Leclerc added. “Monaco was a one-off, we were fighting for the victory, which was incredible and very nice for the motivation of everyone but now with long straights and it is a bit more high speed in general here, even though there are quite a lot of slow-speed corners I believe we will be back to the normal competitiveness that we’ve had before Monaco, so let’s see.”
