Albon makes his return to F1 after a year out with Williams, teaming up with Nicholas Latifi.

The Thai driver struggled during his stint alongside Max Verstappen, ultimately being dropped in favour of Sergio Perez at the end of 2020.

His year out wasn’t entirely wasted as he was Red Bull’s test and reserve driver, fulfilling an important role in the team’s simulator.

Despite Williams and Red Bull’s varying degrees of success in the last 15 years, Albon sees similarities between the two teams.

“Honestly, they are very similar,” Albon said in Barcelona. “The way that Formula 1 teams are structured now as well, they all have similar structures within them. I honestly can’t tell you there’s a standout with either of them which I think is a good thing. It’s very professional, very positive within the engineering group that I am working with here trackside at Williams and it all feels good.

“As I said just now, we’re in a good position where we can start already focusing on performance which is exciting as a driver you can start to the tyre guys, speaking to the performance guys [about] what we can do.

“Structures internally are slightly different in terms of how many people are working on what area of the team and things like that, how they designate jobs at the track. No, obviously they’re working in a very similar way. If there was something that stood out I would tell you but there honestly isn’t.”

Albon will be back in action for Williams when testing gets underway later this week on Thursday in Bahrain.
