Juan Manuel Correa remains under observation in a specialist Intensive Care Unit in the United Kingdom as he continues to recover from injuries he sustained in a crash during the Formula 2 round at Spa-Francorchamps.
Correa suffered fractures to both of his legs as well as a minor spinal injury in a serious accident on the second lap of last weekend's F2 feature race in Belgium. Fellow F2 racer Anthoine Hubert was also involved in the crash and tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The 20-year-old underwent surgery in hospital in Liege, where his condition was described as "stable", before he was transferred to a specialist ICU unit in London earlier this week.
Correa's family thanked the motorsport community for the support shown and confirmed the Ecuadorian-American driver had been made aware of Hubert's death.
F2 said in a statement that all future updates on Correa's physical condition will be sent directly from the championship's communications department in agreement with his family.
It added: "His family would like to thank everyone for their amazing support, but kindly ask that both JM’s and their own privacy is respected."
