Trident signs Sato, Viscaal for 2021 Formula 2 season
Trident Motorsport has announced Marino Sato and Bent Viscaal will drive for the team in the 2021 Formula 2 season.
Sato retains his drive with Trident having raced for the Italian team for the duration of 2020.
The Japanese driver has struggled to find his form in F2, scoring just a solitary point in Mugello.
Speaking of the announcement, Sato said: “I’m really looking forward to continue our journey together with team Trident.
“We had a very tough season last year but we were improving race by race. I need to thank everyone who’s involved to make this happen!”
Viscaal makes the step up from Formula 3 after two seasons in the series.
After only managing 15th in the final standings in his rookie year in 2019, Viscaal showed flashes of brilliance in 2020 as he took two podiums, including a dramatic sprint race victory at Silverstone.
“I cannot wait to make my debut in the FIA Formula 2 championship with Trident Motorsport,” Viscaal added.
“I will be on-track for collective pre-season testing in just about two weeks, and I am really excited!
“We did great preparation work. I have been aware of the value of Trident Motorsport for quite some time, and it’s finally time to work together. I am sure that we will achieve great results.”
