Drugovich gets the all-clear after hospital visit following Sochi F2 shunt
In damp conditions, the Brazilian lost control of his car, smashing into the barriers on his way to the grid.
As a result, he was taken to the nearby hospital for precautionary checks, while the start of the race was delayed by five minutes to allow marshals to clear the track.
Drugovich has received the all-clear and is allowed to start the feature race.
“Following his crash on the way to the grid in Sprint Race 1, Felipe Drugovich was taken to hospital for precautionary check,” UNI-Virtuosi wrote on Twitter.
“Felipe has had a CT scan and X-Ray, and although he’s a bit sore, he’s fortunately been given the all-clear.”
Drugovich took to social media afterwards and wrote: “Thank god I am okay, that was a heavy impact. Thanks everyone for all the messages.”
It was a disastrous day for the team as title contender Guanyu Zhou also spun on his way to the grid.
Zhou stalled his car and ultimately wasn’t able to race.
The good news for Zhou is that points leader Oscar Piastri failed to score as he finished ninth, although Prema teammate Robert Shwartzman finished third and reduced the gap in the standings ahead of tomorrow morning’s feature race.
As a result of the heavy rain in Sochi on Saturday, organisers decided to cancel the second F2 sprint race.
The feature race will take place on Sunday morning at 1120 local time with Piastri set to start from pole position.
This will take place after the final F3 race of the season which is set to start at 0955 local time in Sochi.
