Piastri wins twice red-flagged, shortened F2 feature race in Jeddah
Half points will be awarded due to the result being taken after just five laps of racing meaning Piastri will add 13.5 points to his tally going into Abu Dhabi next weekend.
The race was initially reduced to just 20 minutes plus one lap after a nasty incident on the opening lap between Theo Pourchaire and Enzo Fittipaldi.
The incident occurred on Lap 1 when Pourchaire stalled his ART car from third on the grid.
Unsighted, Fittipaldi drove straight into the back of Pourchaire, forcing the FIA to instantly red flag the race.
The FIA confirmed shortly after the race both drivers were taken to hospital.
After only six laps of racing, the race was red-flagged for a second time after Olli Caldwell lost control of his car at Turn 22, collecting Guilherme Samaia in the process.
Piastri was already in the pits when the race when the Safety Car was initially deployed, giving Prema teammate Robert Shwartzman the race lead.
As per FIA rules, the race result is taken from the last completed race lap.
This means Piastri takes the win ahead of Shwartzman and Campos’ Ralph Boschung.
Going to Abu Dhabi, Piastri will have a 51.5 point lead over his teammate.
2022 Alfa Romeo F1 driver Guanyu Zhou classified fourth ahead of Felipe Drugovich, Juri Vips, Christian Lundgaard, Marcus Armstrong, Liam Lawson and Dan Ticktum.
