Two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso has described launching his Formula Renault Eurocup team as a “dream come true”.
Alonso’s FA Racing team - which already competes in F4, karting and eSports - has joined the Formula Renault Eurocup grid for the upcoming season as one of three new outfits in the series, which has introduced a new car for 2019.
Having stepped away from F1 to concentrate his efforts on becoming just the second driver in history to win the triple crown of motorsport alongside contesting a full season in the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Spaniard has been freed up to take on more involvement with his junior team.
Alonso’s team, which will be run in association with the Spanish Drivex squad founded by ex-F1 driver Pedro de la Rosa and Miguel Angel de Castro, officially unveiled its livery for the 2019 season at a launch event held at Alonso’s personal museum in Spain.
Experienced single-seater driver Callan O’Keeffe, Formula 4 graduate Patrick Schott and rookie Brad Benavides will drive for FA Racing during its inaugural foray into Formula Renault.
“It’s a wonderful feeling to launch the team at home! It’s like a dream come true because we are putting so much effort and passion into this new project,” said Alonso.
“Our goal is to put all our experience into our team. We are looking forward to helping young drivers make their journey up the single-seater ladder and progress their careers.
“We have a strong driver line-up and feel confident about our chances in a top-tier racing series such as the Formula Renault Eurocup.”
The livery that will adorn the Eurocup’s new halo-shod Tatuus F318 car and driver overalls takes inspiration from Alonso’s helmet colours, featuring a chrome blue, yellow and orange design.
Angel de Castro added: “What a great day! We are happy to be here because it was a nice launch for our 2019 Formula Renault Eurocup campaign.
“We have the core elements to complete a competitive season debut in the series. We still have a bit work to do between now and the season opener at Monza next month.
“But we are making some good progress every time we hit the track with our Tatuus cars. Hard work is the best way to start off on the right foot.”
The 2019 Formula Renault Eurocup campaign comprises of 10 rounds and begins next month at Monza.
