Dennis claims maiden Formula E pole position in Valencia

BMW’s Jake Dennis has claimed his maiden Formula E pole position after making the most of a drying Valencia track to secure top spot for this afternoon’s E-Prix.

Drying track conditions meant all six drivers from group four qualified for the Super Pole shootout.

One by one they went out but it was Dennis who reigned supreme, last out on track, making the most of the best track conditions.

It wasn’t all down to the bettering conditions as the British driver beat Andre Lotterer to pole by a whopping 0.863s.

Alexander Lynn qualified third in the Mahindra but will move up a place thanks to Lotterer’s three-place grid penalty.

The improving track conditions allowed both NIO 333 cars to make it into Super Pole -  Tom Blomqvist qualifying fourth ahead of teammate Oliver Turvey in fifth place.

Venturi’s Norman Nato completed the top six, having set his lap first in Super Pole and thus having the worst of the track conditions compared to the other Super Pole participants.

Jean-Eric Vergne missed out on Super Pole having set his best time in group two - he’s set to start from seventh ahead of the Nissan e.DAMS pair of Oliver Rowland and Sebastien Buemi.

Sergio Sette Camara completes the top ten in an encouraging qualifying session for the Brazilian.

As the drivers in the latter groups benefited, group one’s participants had the worst of the track conditions.

Pascal Wehrlein was the highest of the group one runners, ending qualifying in a respectable 13th place.

Mercedes duo Stoffel Vandoorne and Nyck de Vries could only manage 19th and 20th, while Jaguar pair Mitch Evans and Sam Bird qualified 16th and 21st.

With the championship contenders at the back of the grid, Formula E looks set for another exciting E-Prix this afternoon.
