Ancol Confirmed as Jakarta E-Prix Venue For June 2022
Having considered five places as an option, finally Ancol was decided as the Jakarta E-Prix venue for June 2022.
This was confirmed in a press conference attended by The Chairman of the Organising Committee for Formula E Jakarta 2022 Ahmad Sahroni together with The President Director of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) Widi Amanasto, and The President Director of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Tbk. Teuku Sahir Syahali.
In the event that was held on Wednesday morning Indonesian time, Sahroni said there were several factors that made Ancol the chosen location.
While there are many iconic locations in Jakarta such as Monas (National Monument), Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, or Sudirman Business District, Ancol is located in Northern side of the City, and thus the event would not interfere the public daily activities like other nominated venues, which are located in the heart of the capital.
"For the Formula E event, which God willing, will be held in June based on a joint decision and assessment by FEO (Formula E Operations) and FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile), the location has been chosen, it is in the Ancol area, North Jakarta," said Sahroni.
"There are several things that we take into consideration, such as iconic places in Jakarta, and also in accordance with FEO and FIA standards. In addition, other considerations are not disturbing public facilities.
"As we all know, if it is held in the Gelora Bung Karno or Sudirman area, it will require a closure for several days, and that is certainly not possible. Likewise at Monas."
Sahroni also explained that the Circuit for the Jakarta E-Prix will soon be built according specification of the FEO and FIA, with a target completion in April 2022, or two months before the event.
“The E-Prix track is a road track, so the specifications are similar to the normal public roads. The location for making tracks is relatively solid and level, so that track work can be done quickly. Furthermore, the paddock, stage and grandstand are semi-permanent, so it only takes one month to install and demolish," he continued.
Quick look into Jakarta E-Prix Track
Located in the Ancol Carnival Beach area, the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit has clockwise layout with total length of 2.4 kilometers, width of 12 meters and straight line length of 600m.
What makes it different from most Formula E tracks is the layout, contrary to stop-and-go layout, Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit has flowing characteristic, with the majority of its 18 corners being high-speed.
This would providing a more dynamic racing prospect, while simultaneously reducing the overtaking points that usually occur at slow corners.
