Moto3: PrustelGP unveils turquoise 2022 CFMOTO colours
PrustelGP has unveiled a turquoise 2022 Moto3 livery for its new CFMOTO-branded KTM machines, to be raced by Xavier Artigas and Carlos Tatay.
After the tragic loss of Jason Dupasquier at Mugello last season, PrustelGP finished the year with Filip Salac and Ryusei Yamanaka on CarXpert KTMs before embarking on its new Chinese-German collaboration.
The CFMOTO project is also supported by newly retired grand prix veteran and former world champion Thomas Lüthi (also Jason Dupasquier’s mentor and coach) as sports director, with Massimo Capanna in the key role of technical director.
“We expect a lot, that’s sure," said PrustelGP managing director Florian Prustel. "We want to bring CFMOTO as a brand into the World Championship. And this will happen with the sporting results of our riders. We also have great support from the Chinese fans and of course we hope to continue to work successfully with CFMOTO in the future.”
Artigas spent his rookie 2021 grand prix season at Leopard Honda, where he took a shock victory in the Valentino season finale after a previous best of eighth.
“I learned a lot last year and this year I am more ready than ever to be at the front in every race," Artigas said. "Sure, the switch to CFMOTO is something I’ve had to adjust to and still do, but the atmosphere in the team is very good and motivates me to ride to the top for CFMOTO.”
Former Red Bull Rookies Cup winner Tatay is switching from Avintia, where he took a best of sixth place over two seasons.
“We’ll wait for the first tests in Spain and then we’ll decide the goals for the season," he said. "I was able to progress last year with every race, every lap and I’m so happy with the team. I’m looking forward to and feel ready for the season.”
The official Moto3 pre-season test will be held at Jerez month, ahead of March season-opener in Qatar.
CFMOTO won't be the only Chinese-branded KTMs joining the grid, with 'QJMOTOR' sealing a similar deal with the Avintia team, adding to the Husqvarna, GASGAS will 'official' KTM entries.
Although each scores its own constructors' points, Honda is KTM's only Moto3 competitior in terms of a genuinely different design.
