After Jack Miller topped a wet Assen FP1 session, Ducati team-mate Francesco Bagnaia proved the man to beat on a drying track as he ultimately pipped Aleix Espargaro and Fabio Quartararo.

There were three crashes on the opening day of action, two of which came from Marco Bezzecchi - the other was a fast tumble through the gravel for Enea Bastianini during FP1.

Quartararo heads into Sunday race as the hot favourite after winning back-to-back races in Catalunya and Sachsenring. Winner at Assen last season, the reigning world champion has a 34 point championship lead over Aleix Espargaro.

In regards to the MotoGP ‘silly season’, the latest information we have is that Miguel Oliveira is set for a move to Aprilia, while Alex Rins at LCR Honda is also likely. Fabio Di Giannantonio could sign a new deal at Gresini Ducati as early as this weekend. Other news is linking Alex Marquez with a switch to Gresini Ducati and Pol Espargaro back to KTM with Tech 3.
