American MotoGP at COTA: Friday Practice as it happened

Joan Mir has crashed in sector three and lost his front fairing in the process.

Bagnaia has a long list of riders following him as they look to take advantage of the world champion needing to find time. 

The final time attacks are beginning - the big name outsdie the top ten as it stands is Bagnaia. 

Martin obliterates the lap record as he goes top by over six tenths. What a stunning lap from Martin!

Make that Morbidelli who goes second fastest but Martin is on a stunning lap time...

Vinales smashes the fastest lap time as Marc Marquez goes second. 

There's just under 18 minutes to go as the all-important time attacks are getting underway. 

Fabio Di Giannantonio gets it all wrong at turn 12 as he runs off circuit. 

Martin snaps straight back as he goes quickest by a tenth of a second. 

Some fast times are coming in as Vinales breaks into the 2m 2s barrier. 

He does! Marquez goes third behind Martin and Vinales - just over half the session is remaining. 

Down in 16th, Marc Marquez looks set to jump up the order on his latest lap...

Most of the riders have returned to pit lane and a subsequent lull in the action has followed. 

Maverick Vinales slots into second and is the only rider within a tenth of Martin. 

It's Jorge Martin who currently leads the way ahead of Pedro Acosta and Aleix Espargaro.

Vinales closes out FP1 fastest ahead of Martin, Acosta, Bastianini and Bezzecchi. 

Vinales improves again as the checkered flag drops at COTA. 

Vinales does not want to be denied as he goes quickest late on after fitting a new rear tyre. 

Acosta leads Marc Marquez as both men take big chunks out of their previous best lap times. Acosta is the only rider in the 2m 3s. 

We have yet another change at the top as Jack Miller sets a 2:04.297s.
