Francesco Bagnaia is not allowing himself to think too far ahead despite his unofficial lap record at the Sepang MotoGP test.

Looking to become a three-time MotoGP champion in 2024, Bagnaia did his status as favourite no harm at the Sepang test.

Bagnaia ended the three-day test fastest as he got the better of Jorge Martin with his first time attack of the pre-season.

Bagnaia was just one of four riders to break into the 1m 56s barrier, while his long run pace was also very impressive.

Speaking to MotoGP.com, Bagnaia said: “It was a really good lap time. It arrived in the first time attack and it was great. I’m happy with the lap time but it is just a test.

“The condition today was incredible. I’m very happy for the work we did and we finished the schedule of all the things to try and the new bike is working very well.

“I’m very happy with the braking because I think it is a big step compared to 2023 but we still have some margin with power delivery and power on the straight.

“We will keep working like this and try to make another step in Qatar.”

The Qatar test, which begins next Monday, will be the last chance for riders and teams to find the perfect set-up before the new season kicks off.

Bagnaia, who feels as though he’s very close to where he needs to be, will be focusing on power delivery as it remains similar to last year.

Bagnaia added: “The work left to do will be very important and we have to be focused on power delivery.

“We did a step in front but in Qatar it will be important to improve because I think it is the same as last year but we need more.”
