Gibernau has surgery, targets Catalunya

Sete Gibernau has targeted a return to action for the Catalunya Grand Prix after undergoing surgery to secure a transversal displaced fracture to the middle of his left collarbone.

The Spaniard sustained the injury in a crash at Le Mans during the second French Grand Prix free practice session of the weekend.

Ruled out of that event, Gibernau will also miss the upcoming round at Mugello in Italy after having a plate and screws fitted to rejoin the bone in an operation at Dexeus Institute in Barcelona.

Although there is no word on whether the Grupo Francisco Hernando Ducati team will seek a replacement for Mugello, doctors are confident Gibernau will be fit in time to compete in the Catalunya Grand Prix in four weeks time.
