Yamaha MotoGP rider Ben Spies will undergo a change of management in 2011 after joining forces with Phil Baker of SA 1 Management, it has been announced.

Baker, who has more than two decades of experience in motorsport, from World Rally, Formula One and Champ Car World Series to MotoGP and has worked with many top athletes, is delighted to represent one of the leading stars of two-wheel racing.

"It's an honor for me and my company, SA 1 Management, to be working with Ben Spies in MotoGP," said Baker. "Ben has already won three AMA Superbike titles, the 2009 World Superbike championship and, last season, Rookie of the Year honours in MotoGP.

"Now that Ben is a factory rider for Team Yamaha Racing, I expect to see him fighting for podium positions and victories. I've worked with Grand Prix world champions in the past, and I strongly believe that Ben has the focus and skill necessary to join that elite group."

One of the goals of this new collaboration is to introduce Spies to a broader audience beyond that of the motorcycle industry.

"Ben recently launched his own cycling team, 'Elbowz Racing,' which has raised eyebrows by winning six of its first eight races," said Baker. "Cycling is a huge passion for Ben and the perfect way for him to train and remain in peak condition. Plus, the connection between MotoGP and cycling has been amazing; many people from the world of professional cycling are now paying close attention to MotoGP."

"This is a great opportunity for me and Speezracing," added Ben Spies. "We have been searching for someone who can create new entrepreneurial and sponsorship opportunities for me, such as Elbowz Racing. Phil thinks 'out of the box,' and I am confident that he will help take me to the next level."
