Jorge Lorenzo has already put his Qatar MotoGP brake failure behind him, as he seeks to make up for an 'unlucky' opening race in Argentina this weekend.

Yesterday (Wednesday) Brembo officially confirmed that 'an issue connected to the braking system' forced Lorenzo to bail off at 110mph on lap 12, adding that the unspecified problem had been 'identified and resolved'.

"I don't want to waste any time on it, because it's an unlucky situation and they are the experts, they are the ones who control everything, they will find a solution," said Lorenzo, when asked if he had spoken to Brembo about it.

"It shouldn't happen, but it happened."

Despite the obvious danger, the incident was especially frustrating for Lorenzo, who felt he was on the verge of turning around a tough weekend.

"If I had been able to finish the race, I think I could finish in fourth, fifth, sixth position. But for the problem of the brake I couldn't finish the corner, the lap and the race. But you know, I was very unlucky, and it will not happen again in the future."

Since Qatar, reports have emerged that Lorenzo has already split from Alex Debon, hired as his new rider coach for this season.

"As I told your Spanish colleagues, I prefer not to speak about that because it's a house problem I want to keep private."

Either way, Lorenzo will still have Ducati test and wild-card rider Michele Pirro to count upon at most rounds.

"They were two different 'pieces' in the team. And the entrance of Alex didn't change anything about the work with Pirro. But he [Pirro] will come to the races. Not all of them, because finally he will do the Italian championship, but he will come to 80% of the races."

All three GP18 riders made poor starts to the Qatar race, which some have speculated is down to increased wheelie issues from a more flexible chassis.

However team-mate and race winner Andrea Dovizioso said his poor start was the result of a near miss with Alex Rins, while Lorenzo feels the absence of a wing fairing is a factor.

"Well, for the moment, I'm not able to use the winglets, so this for sure affects the wheelie, and I believe this year's bike makes more wheelie on the straight, so this doesn't help us from the start. We have to find some solution, but it's not our strong point any more."

Will you use the winglets this weekend?

"If I have time or if we think that it can be a good test, we will try it. But first we are going to concentrate on other things."

Free practice at Termas de Rio Hondo begins on Friday morning. Parts of the circuit have been resurfaced since last season, Michelin has more tyres on offer and rain looks all but guaranteed at some time during the weekend.
