How Marquez can seal the MotoGP title in Thailand
Following his dominant victory at the Argon MotoGP last time out, Marc Marquez has moved to within touching distance of the 2019 riders’ world championship with five rounds to go.
The Thailand MotoGP marks Marquez’s first opportunity to seal the crown which he can do if he outscores Andrea Dovizioso by two points. Put simply, with a 100-point lead or more leaving the Chang International Circuit Marquez cannot be caught in the MotoGP title race.

In order to seal his eighth world title this weekend these are the permutations which would see Marquez as champion in Thailand:
- Marquez wins
- Marquez finishes second and Dovizioso finishes third or lower
- Marquez finishes third and Dovizioso finishes fourth or lower
- Marquez finishes fourth and Dovizioso finishes fifth or lower
- Marquez finishes fifth and Dovizioso finishes seventh or lower
- Marquez finishes sixth and Dovizioso finishes eighth or lower
- Marques finishes seventh and Dovizioso finishes ninth or lower
- Marquez finishes eighth and Dovizioso finishes 10th or lower
- Marquez finishes ninth and Dovizioso finishes 11th or lower
- Marquez finishes 10th and Dovizioso finishes 12th or lower
- Marquez finishes 11th and Dovizioso finishes 13th or lower
- Marquez finishes 12th and Dovizioso finishes 14th or lower
- Marquez finishes 13th and Dovizioso finishes 15th or lower
- Marquez finishes 14th and Dovizioso does not score points
But given the Repsol Honda rider has been either first or second in every race so far this season, except for his DNF at the Americas MotoGP, the main focus will be on the combinations at the top of the list above.
Marquez claimed victory at the maiden Thailand round 12 months ago by just 0.115s following a last-corner fight with the Ducati rider.
