Eight-time grand prix world champion Marc Marquez topped a wet Styrian MotoGP warm-up session from fellow wet weather specialist Jack Miller.

Speaking of his wet weather prowess, Miller wasted no time in showing his strength in the tricky conditions as he immediately went fastest, however, Pol Espargaro was able to find even more time early on and go top.

Espargaro remained atop the leaderboard until team-mate Marquez went fastest with ten minutes remaining.

Iker Lecuona, who’s future in MotoGP looks to be coming to an end, then put his Tech 3 KTM top from Marquez and Miller.

Lecuona and Marquez continued to exchange fastest times, but it was the eight-time world champion who eventually came out on top.

Lecuona was then relegated to fourth as Miller took second and Maverick Vinales finished as the quickest Yamaha in third place.

Fifth was Francesco Bagnaia ahead of his second place start for today’s race, while Pramac riders Johann Zarco and pole sitter Jorge Martin were sixth and seventh.

One rider who struggled quite considerably was championship leader Fabio Quartararo as he finished 16th - over 1.7s down.

It was also a slow start to race day for Suzuki riders Joan Mir and Alex Rins as they finished 19th and 20th.

Plenty of bike swap rehearsals were practiced at the beginning of the session, as Alex Marquez, Rins and Enea Bastianini kicked things off. Marc Marquez then followed suit for the Repsol Honda team before Miller did the same.

With conditions expected to worsen as the day goes on, especially around the start time of the MotoGP race, Miller and Marquez figure to be heavy favorites for victory.
