Wimmer to drive #23 Hills Bros at Talladega.

Scott Wimmer, Bill Davis' NASCAR Busch Series driver, will drive the No. 23 Hills Bros. Coffee Dodge at Talladega Superspeedway this weekend.

Kenny Wallace took over full-time driving duties of the No. 23 car at Darlington earlier in the season, but before he signed on with Bill Davis, Wallace had already committed to driving for car owner, Andy Petree, and the No. 33 car for the Talladega event.

BDR needed to find someone to fill in for Wallace at the Talladega event due to the conflict, and felt Wimmer was the logical choice.

BDR needed to find someone to fill in for Wallace at the Talladega event due to the conflict, and felt Wimmer was the logical choice.

"Scott was our only thought to substitute for Kenny this weekend," said general manager, Mike Brown. "He is more than capable of getting the job done and he is already comfortable with everyone at our organization. Having him available to drive, it didn't make any sense bringing in a 'hired gun' for this event."

"I feel this will be an easy transition, as I already know everyone on the Hills Bros. Coffee team," said Wimmer. "Even though Philippe and I have never worked together as driver and crew chief, we have worked together under the Bill Davis Racing umbrella. At BDR, all of our crew chiefs, drivers and team members talk regularly about our cars and how we can improve them. We communicate to see if we can take something that one team is using and try it with another to be successful, like all multi-car teams do."

"I know Philippe listens to our team on the radio during our Busch practices, and I listen to them as well, so we're already accustomed to each other. While the 23 Cup team isn't the team I've been working with all year, I don't feel as if we'll even skip a beat this weekend in any department."

"I'm really excited to have this opportunity," continued Wimmer. "I know the Dodge has a good superspeedway package, so I can't wait to get it out on the track. I ran a Dodge in the Busch race at Daytona in July and qualified on the outside pole. With the Hills Bros Coffee team, they finished 11th last year at Talladega, so hopefully we can try to get the car into the top-10 this time around."

Martinsville is the only remaining event that Wallace will be unable to compete in the No. 23 car, as his first priority for the remainder of the 2002 season is the Stacker 2 Busch car and he will be racing in Memphis that weekend. A driver has yet to be named to fill the vacancy.
