With the #30 America Online Chevrolet sporting a new look this weekend, Winston Cup driver Jeff Green will welcome his friend, country singer Neal McCoy as part of the Warner Bros. Records Inside Traxx promotion during the UAW-GM Quality 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Featured on the AOL Chevy and the CD, McCoy will be part of the pre-race festivities as he takes his supercharged country act to the heart of NASCAR racing.
McCoy's single, "What If," was released in June and his newest single "The Luckiest Man in the World" is now hitting the airwaves. His upcoming CD, The Luckiest Man In The World, will be released on January 28, 2003, on the Warner Bros. label.
Inside Traxx is a compilation album of country artists geared toward NASCAR fans.
The three-part program spans the CD, concert series and collectible die-casts. McCoy will perform a pre race concert similar just as Jo Dee Messina did earlier this season at Chicago.
"Neal and I have built a friendship through this promotion," said Green, who first met McCoy during the Inside Traxx CD unveiling in June. "He is such a great guy and it will be fun to have him around this weekend in Charlotte. Maybe we'll even get to take him to victory lane. That sure would be great, the AOL team has been working real hard at getting that first win."
Coming off his fourth top-five finish of the season, Green seeks to improve upon his earlier performance at Lowe's Motor Speedway. During the race in May, he took a provisional to start the 600-mile race but fought his way to a 20th-place finish after suffering brake problems mid-way through the race.
"We had a great car at the end of that race and were able to pick up a couple of spots," said Green, who is 17th in the Winston Cup points standings after 30 races. "I wish we could have started the race over once the car got to handling better. The AOL team did a great job making adjustments so we're hoping those notes will help us this weekend."
Bringing chassis #75 back to the track after a two-week absence, Green will drive the car that has given him the most success this season. Competing in eight races this season, this AOL Chevy took Green to his best Winston Cup career finish (second) at New Hampshire.
"This car seems to give us our best finishes," said Green, who starts in his 89th career Winston Cup race during the UAW-GM Quality 500. "We've also tried to destroy it a couple of times as well but the guys at the shop have done a great job of keeping this AOL Chevy in perfect condition. It's definitely one of our better handling cars."
The same car with a different look, not only does this AOL Chevy adorn Neal McCoy decals but also that of AOL Broadband. It's the second time this season Broadband has been apart of a promotion. Four radio contest winners will join Green during driver introductions and then accompany the AOL team to the pits where they will be the day's honorary pit crew members.
AOL Broadband is available nationwide via DSL or with Time Warner Cable and Advance/Newhouse systems. For additional information about AOL Broadband, members can visit AOL Keyword: Broadband where they can learn about broadband, check local availability and place an order.
The UAW-GM Quality 500 is scheduled to begin at 12.30 pm [local time] and Green believes that McCoy's two most recent singles could become this weekend's theme songs should he earn his first Winston Cup victory.
