Morgan Shepherd and the Victory In Jesus Racing Team have confirmed their preliminary plans for the 2003 season, in which they hope to contest both the Craftsman Truck and Winston Cup series.
"Many exciting things are in the works for 2003," Shepherd said, "Our plans include running some Winston Cup races, and we also have a few exciting things planned for the Craftsman Truck Series. We have signed a letter of intent with 18-year old Kyle Drum. We would like to get him started in the Craftsman Truck Series running for Victory In Jesus Racing. The number of events is undetermined at this time, pending sponsorship dollars."
Drum joins Victory In Jesus Racing with an extensive resume. He has been behind the wheel of a car, competing with his father, since 1993 and, during the ten years he has been in competition, he has accomplished three kart championships and one Micro Sprint championship. At the age of 15, Drum moved into the Super Sprints, where he managed a victory in only his second attempt. He became the youngest feature winner ever, and would go on to claim the Rookie of the Year title in the Empire Super Sprint series in 2001. Drum is currently a student at State University of New York, where he is working on his engineering degree.
"I am very excited about the opportunities that lay ahead of me," he admitted, "Morgan Shepherd is a wonderful person and is going to be a great teacher. The amount of knowledge that he has about racing is unbelievable. I can't wait to start working with him."
The combination firmly believes that the formula is there for a successful team, and discussions are taking place with several potential marketing partners in the effort to secure the necessary funding.
