Jarrett aiming for Shootout win number three.

Nineteen drivers comprising all the 2002 Bud Pole winners, as well as previous winners of the race, will battle it out in the 2003 Budweiser Shootout this Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway.

The Budweiser Shootout tends to be an all-out, no hold barred dash for cash. The format for the race has been tweaked slightly and the event takes on a primetime role as the 70-lap race is moved to an 8p.m. start. Jarrett, a two-time winner of the Budweiser Shootout, looks forward to the new start for the 2003 version of the pre-season teaser.

"I think we all enjoy racing at night," Jarrett said. "Racing the Bud Shootout, in particular, at night will make for a more interesting event for sure. I know we don't have any problems racing at night. All the tracks that we race at during the night are so well lit that you see the track better. It's better for the fans. I think everything looks a little more spectacular at night."

"I also think it has to be better for our viewers that aren't at the race but watching it on TV," Jarrett added. "It obviously has to be a better time for them to be able to watch what we do. So, you know I think we enjoy it for all those reasons."

The 2003 Winston Cup season gets its official start in one week. Brad Parrott's first official duty as crew chief is to guide Jarrett and the #88 UPS Ford in the Budweiser Shootout.

"This is pretty special for me," Parrott said. "I remember my dad, when he was 35 years old and got his first opportunity with an unknown guy named Farrell Harris and he was a two-man garage. Now here I am crew chiefing about 160 people going into the 2003 season. If I hadn't been in racing for the last 17 years, I would have said this is pretty big, but this has been my goal - to lead a championship team. You cannot win a championship without a championship driver and I've got that with Dale Jarrett."

Jarrett has been a staple of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series since the late 1980s. Since starting on the circuit full-time in 1990 with the Wood Brothers, Jarrett has been a consistent performer. Jarrett's total career Winston Cup starts is at 495, and he is slated to make his 500th career start on Sunday, March 16th at Darlington Raceway. Career start 496 takes place in the 2003 Daytona 500 on February 16th.
