This year's Winston All-Star event will mark the fourth straight season that Ward Burton, driver of the #22 Caterpillar Dodge, will compete in the race that features NASCAR's most recent winners from its elite series - the Winston Cup - and to celebrate, Burton will feature an all-new livery for the occasion.
Burton earned his place in the event through his wins last season - at the Daytona 500 and the New Hampshire 300 - and joins in the now traditional opportunity to showcase a special paint scheme as the #22 showcases ACERT Technology, an option being offered by the CAT Engine division.
ACERT Technology is a breakthrough technology for on-highway diesel truck engines that meet compliant emissions regulations while maintaining reliability, durability and fuel economy. It is being offered on five engine models in a range of 190-550bhp. When the line of engines meets full production in October, it will culminate over ten million miles of testing.
"With Caterpillar always evolving in its industry, we are also evolving as a team," Burton explained, "We hope the CAT team can bring ACERT Technology to the front on Saturday week. We have a million good reasons to win - Winston has put up a lot of money to the winner.
"It is a great race because the teams can try new things for following week's race in Charlotte without having to use a test. The best test you can have is one on the track with other cars. I'm looking forward to the Winston and I think we'll have a shot at the win."
The #22 Caterpillar Dodge will sparkle with silver and black as it competes in NASCAR's All-Star event under the lights at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Just like Caterpillar is its industry leader, the Caterpillar employees, dealers and customers hope that Burton is the leader when he takes the chequered flag Saturday night.
