Amick-Parker charity golf ready to tee off.

NASCAR Busch Series drivers Lyndon Amick and Hank Parker Jr. (pictured) are joining forces to host this year's Ashe County Civic Centre Benefit Golf Tournament.

The tournament, which in the past had been hosted by Benny Parsons, will be held Tuesday, May 27 at the Mountain Aire Golf Course in West Jefferson, North Carolina. Proceeds from the tournament will be used to fund activities at the Ashe County Civic Centre.

In its ninth year, the Ashe County Civic Centre Golf Tournament has become an annual outing for local golf enthusiasts and NASCAR drivers. Past players praise the tournament for the challenging course and friendly competition.

Several NASCAR drivers have signed on for this year's event including two-time NASCAR Busch Series champion Randy LaJoie, Tim Fedewa, Deborah Renshaw and Andy Houston.

"Hank and I are excited to be helping out with the golf tournament. We both played in the tournament when Benny [Parsons] hosted it and we're excited to get the chance to help out this year," explained co-host Lyndon Amick.

"The proceeds of the tournament will provide money for plays, concerts, shows and other programs. Ashe County citizens utilize this centre daily and we want to make sure it has the funding to continue to provide benefits for the surrounding areas."

Ashe County Civic Centre Executive Director Shane Little expects more than 100 participants in this year's event. "NASCAR drivers make this tournament successful. Even with their busy schedules, they find the time to come out to spend the day with us. That's what makes NASCAR America's favourite sport - the accessibility of the drivers and teams. I have yet to meet a NASCAR driver that doesn't have time for his or her fans."

The day's activities will include a "meet and greet" with the drivers followed by a shotgun start at 11:00 a.m. Following the competition, the local American Legion will provide a chicken dinner courtesy of Amick Farms.
