Baker's latest success story is Ryan Newman who won the 2002 Raybestos Rookie of the Year title in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. Baker advised Newman throughout his formative years driving for Penske Racing South.
Baker will be in the garage and pit area helping Crofford when the premier asphalt late models in the Southwest compete at "The Great American Speedway." Crofford is looking forward to the learning experience.
"Mr. Baker didn't have any commitments for the race weekend in Texas and could come to help us," said Crofford. "It is going to be so helpful to have someone like him giving us pointers throughout the weekend."
Racing at Texas Motor Speedway is important to Crofford and he wants to make an impressive showing in the Young Chevrolet 100.
"It is very important for us to race here," continued Crofford. "There is a big crowd and we are practicing and racing in front of the Truck and IndyCar teams. Normally we are running smaller tracks, the Saturday night shows. When you come out here, it is more spectacular with more glamour. It really means a lot to us."
The Young Chevrolet 100 will get the green flag Saturday, June 7 at 4 p.m., before the start of the Bombardier 500k Indy Racing League IndyCar Series race.
