Jarrett's jackman out of hospital.

One of the very few unpleasant images to come out of the 10th anniversary Brickyard 400 was Dale Jarrett's lap 37 accident at the entrance to pit road in which Jarrett's Ford Taurus struck jackman John Bryan.

Although TV replays clearly showed Jarrett's errant No.88 UPS Ford swipe the inside pit wall and pitch Bryan up and over the hood at a sickening angle, Bryan was out of the nearby Methodist Hospital by Monday morning with nothing more than a sore shoulder and pelvis.

Immediately following the accident, which brought out the first caution period of the afternoon, Bryan was transported by ambulance to the local hospital where he was reported to be awake and alert. Although it is not yet known whether or not he will be able to resume his pit-crew duties next weekend at Watkins Glen, news of his condition would have come as a blessing for Jarrett, who carried on in the race to finish 39th but was clearly devastated by the crash.

"This is probably the worst day of my life," said the 1996 and 1999 Brickyard 400 winner. "It's the most devastating thing I've ever been associated with and it was just stupidity on my part. There's nothing else I can say about it. I didn't even care about the rest of the race. I had to finish it for the guys. They worked hard but I could have cared less. My thoughts were just, 'God, take care of John Bryan.'"

Joe Krupa, a photographer from the local Muncie Star Press also suffered minor scrapes and scratches in the accident when he was struck by one of the tyres set to be put on during Jarrett's stop. Krupa was also taken to Methodist as a precaution but was later released without any lasting injuries.
