NASCAR Busch Series drivers Casey Atwood, Kasey Kahne, Tim Fedewa and two-time series champion Randy LaJoie are the first drivers confirmed for the new SPEED Channel reality series NBS 24/7, set to debut with back-to-back half-hours on February 16.
SPEED Channel executive producer Rick Miner was quick to point out that NBS 24/7 will be a true "reality" show.
"With the term 'reality show,' unfortunately, people have been trained to look for something like I Want to Marry a Frog," said Miner. "Those shows have nothing to do with reality. NBS 24/7 will be documenting reality. There will be no casting - no set-ups.
"The people are in place and we are simply documenting what happens, not influencing what happens," he added. "And unlike traditional race coverage, which examines the action between the green flag and the checkers, NBS 24/7 will take a look at what goes on between the checkers and the green."
Three of the drivers - Atwood, Fedewa and LaJoie - are all part of the growing FitzBradshaw organization owned by NFL Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw and North Carolina businessman Armando Fitz.
"Fans are always asking me about what goes on in the shop, well now they'll get to see," Atwood said. "I love to watch behind-the-scenes TV, so I think it is pretty cool that each of FitzBradshaw's three teams will be highlighted in the show."
"NASCAR fans just can't get enough of everything that goes into preparing for NASCAR race days," said Bradshaw, the Emmy Award-winning co-host of Fox NFL Sunday. "With NBS 24/7 preparing to debut and announcing that FitzBradshaw Racing will be one of the select teams, all NASCAR fans will now get the true, behind-the-scenes experience. FitzBradshaw Racing is thrilled to open its shop doors to the show's crew and give fans full-access to our operation, drivers and crew members."
The series will run for 40-plus weeks, chronicling the lives of multiple NASCAR Busch Series drivers and their teams. Designed to highlight the personalities of the participants, the program will focus on activities between events as well as each team's success or failure on the race track.
"Our entire organization is honoured and excited about being one of the select teams to be featured in this new television series," Fitz said. "Reality television has gone from being a novelty to a proven form of television programming. FitzBradshaw Racing will undoubtedly provide the raw and real content SPEED Channel is seeking."
Kasey Kahne and Akins Motorsports are also ready to go: "It's awesome," said Doug Stringer, Akins general manager and ownership partner. "It's a great opportunity to bring exposure and identity to the individuals behind the scenes that help make the race program successful for Kasey."
