Schrader wins NASCAR Winter Heat - again!

Nextel Cup driver Ken Schrader, already the winningest driver in the history of Phoenix International Raceway, captured his 14th trophy at the weekend after winning the United Rentals 150 NASCAR Grand National Division West Series race.

Austin Cameron was second, followed by Matt Kobyluck, Mike David and Jim Inglebright, but all attention focused on Schrader.

"The car got a little tight today, tighter than it was yesterday," the veteran said, "It might've been the weather. Austin was good and the #20 car [Clint Bowyer] was good, but they took care of each other for me and left a big hole."

Schrader started 19th after qualifying was cancelled due to rain, but quickly made his way to the front to battle with Cameron for the win.

"We had a good handle on the race in the first half, then the handle did go away a little bit," Cameron reported, "We got a push tight situation in the centre, where it was a little bit tight, then it would finally get some grip and then the rear end would want to come around on us. We fought that during the afternoon, we were just trying to be conservative. A couple of times I got run into, and it was pretty unfortunate because both times we were sitting pretty good. All in all it was a good run, but we finished one spot behind where we wanted to."

Tim Woods recorded his career best series finish with a sixth, ahead of Scott Gaylord, Clint, Brandon Ash and outside polesitter Mike Duncan. Dale Quarterly started 29th of 30 but moved through the pack to challenge for the lead before pitting. He returned one lap down, starting on the inside row after a caution period and, while fighting to get his lap back, made contact with Schrader, ending up in the wall.

"He kept turning left, like he was at Star Speedway," said Schrader about the incident, "The one time he turned left he didn't have me cleared."

Schrader also raced in the PhoenixRaceway.com 100 AutoZone Elite Division Southwest Series race, finishing seventh.
