Blaney and Co. to return for Coke 600.

On the heels of a highly competitive showing during last weekend's Nextel Open All-Star qualifying race, Dave Blaney and the No.23 Bill Davis Racing team will attempt to qualify for this weekend's gruelling Coca Cola 600 at the Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Blaney and his part-time crew once again proved that they are worthy of a full-time sponsor by setting pole position for the Nextel Open and then steering clear of the wreckage to record a close top eight finish. Although it wasn't enough to qualify the team for the main event, they will return for another crack this weekend.

"This is one of my favourite races," said Blaney. "It's really exciting because it's raced under the lights in front of a sold out crowd. For a racer, it's even better because it is such a long race that you can overcome a lot of things before the end of 600 miles."

Once again the #23 Dodge will sport Whelen colours 'under the lights' although further help this weekend will come in the form of Accession Consulting Inc., who have joined Bill Davis Racing as an associate sponsor for this race.

"We should have a really strong car after a decent run in the Open and a real good test a couple weeks ago. I think we'll be able to prove again that we are worthy of having a full-time sponsor in this series. We've run a race a month and the plan is to continue that until we can secure a full-time deal. The races where we hadn't been taken out, we've run no worse than 15th. I think if we can put a package together to run the whole schedule that we would be running better than that. But, our goal is to go there this weekend and run like we've been running and get ourselves another good finish."

Running on a shoestring budget, Blaney and the #23 team have been impressive in all four of their Nextel Cup outings to date with eleventh place finishes at Texas and Atlanta and a 15th place effort in the Daytona 500. Should Blaney equal those performances on Sunday evening he could be in line for a career best Coca Cola 600 finish, a mark that currently stands at P14 when he drove for the #77 Jasper Engines Ford last year.

Blaney will also carry the names of nearly 200 individuals on the #23 Whelen Dodge's deck lid. The names inscribed were part of a promotion to support the Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project, whose mission is to construct superior equipment for the U.S. men's and women's bobsled teams. For every $50 worth of Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project apparel purchased, a single name was added to the car's deck lid.
