The 24 year-old New Jersey born driver, who currently leads the Busch Series standings for DEI's offshoot Chance 2 Motorsports team, got his first shot in a Nextel Cup car during July's Siemens 300 at NHIS when he replaced the injured Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Although Truex Jr drove most of the 300-laps behind the wheel of the famous #8 Budweiser Chevrolet, he was not eligible for points as Earnhardt Jr started the race. Thus, next Sunday's race will be counted as Truex Jr's first Nextel Cup start.
