Miss America to sing at Dover.

If the sight of 43 stock-cars pounding around the 'Monster Mile' this Sunday wasn't enough to whet your appetite, news that the recently crowned Miss America will be gracing the Dover International Speedway as grand marshal for the MBNA America 400 will surely get you going. Even better - she's going to sing as well!!

Less than a week after winning the Miss America 2005 crown, Deidre Downs from Alabama will serve as the Grand Marshal, and also sing the National Anthem, at the MBNA America 400 this coming Sunday.

Downs, 24, an aspiring doctor who put off medical school to compete for the crown, bested Miss Louisiana Jennifer Dupont to become Miss America 2005. Downs won a $50,000 scholarship to continue her education.

A whirlwind publicity tour began in the U.S. on Monday morning, with appearances on NBC's Today with Katie Couric and Matt Lauer and ABC's LIVE with Regis & Kelly. After appearances on the CBS Early Show and The Late Show with David Letterman, along with corporate meetings, Downs will head to Dover for race weekend.

She will make various hospitality appearances, participate in driver introductions on stage, and serve as Grand Marshal for Sunday's MBNA America 400 at Dover International Speedway.

Before you run for the volume control, she is very capable of singing the National Anthem as her performance of the ballad "I'm Afraid This Must Be Love," sealed the Miss America victory after a week-long preliminary competition in Atlantic City.
