Wimmer chills after Daytona test.
After spending the majority of last week testing his new #22 Bill Davis Racing Dodge Charger at Daytona, Scott Wimmer spent most of the weekend piloting a snowmobile in Wisconsin, having some fun and helping to raise money for his late friend's memorial benefit.
After spending the majority of last week testing his new #22 Bill Davis Racing Dodge Charger at Daytona, Scott Wimmer spent most of the weekend piloting a snowmobile in Wisconsin, having some fun and helping to raise money for his late friend's memorial benefit.
Wimmer participated in the festivities surrounding the Wausau 525 Snowmobile Championships, held over the weekend at Man Made Lake in Wausau, Wisconsin, with proceeds going toward "Flip's Fund," which was established shortly after Wimmer's friend, Philip "Flip" Merwin, was fatally injured in a snowmobile accident in January 2003.
"I always look forward to making it home this time of the year and it is nice to be able to make it up there to help Flip's family with their fundraising endeavours," Wimmer said. "We all grew up together riding snowmobiles and racing, so it is a little bit of a reunion."
In addition to Wimmer's efforts, other NASCAR drivers like Dave Marcis and Kevin Harvick donated autographed memorabilia to help raise money during the event.
"Flip's dad has put a lot of time and money into the event and a combination of stock car and snowmobile racers have made various donations, so we are hoping to have a good turnout," Wimmer said. "I am excited to see Flip's family. They make it to the race track from time to time, but my free time is so limited when I'm at the track."
All of the contributions to "Flip's Fund" are used to help children with critical illness and to fund student education programs. Since the fund was established, additional monies have been made from other great events including memorial stock car races and annual golf outings. Private contributions have also been added.
